Field characters

Pileus: generally small and fragile (in our species), often with a depression, finely scaled, many brightly colored or very dark.
Annulus: absent
Stipe: fragile
Stature: various, usually Collybioid or Omphaloid
Ecology: on the ground

Micro characters

Basidiospores: spores angular in all views, inamyloid
Hyphae: with or without clamp connections
Cystidia: present or absent
Spore Print: pinkish to pink-tan or pinkish-brown.
Lamellae: adnexed, adnate to subdecurrent, sometimes with colored edges

Notes

This is another genus not recognized by all. Singer, 1986 includes it as a subgenus of Entoloma (along with Nolanea et al.) as does Noordeloos (www.entoloma.nl) and www.mycokey.com). Largent, in a few publications has made an argument for the separation of the genera, based on North American material. The Atlantic Ocean, it appears has gotten in the way in this debate.
